Then and Now

The entertainment capital of the world was born in the early 1900’s with the creation of such movie studios as Warner Bros, Columbia, Universal, MGM, 20th Century Fox, and Paramount.

From the 1920’s to the 1950’s Hollywood emerged and grew as the most glamorous place on earth and the playground for the rich and famous.

Hollywood entertainment expanded beyond motion pictures to include the radio, television and recording industries. Hollywood became the center of the world for entertainment, business, and shopping.

With the flight to suburbia beginning in the 1950’s and continuing through the 1990’s, Hollywood lost some of its luster. For 50 years the entertainment core of Hollywood remained dormant. Local residents stopped visiting Hollywood Boulevard, choosing to stay in their suburban communities.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame was created to honor the stars of Hollywood and capitalize on tourism dollars.
